« Ethiopia – Danakil Salt Way

Each caravaner is assigned a fokolo (extractor) and an edele (cutter) by a night lottery to work as a team during the whole extraction day in the Salt Plain. The Fokolo break the salt crust with axes, then lift it by long wooden rods. The slabs obtained are then chiseled by the edele to make tiles called ganfur.
